Elvis Blues
jk

February 28th is a special Sunday. Yerevan's Stop Club is featuring Narek Markarian's new show ELVIS BLUES. The show is a tribute to blues roots and blues legacy of Elvis Presley, that were so crucial on his path to stardom. Elvis was the first white man to sing the blues right, he opened show business doors for a great number of extremely talented African American entertainers and was highly influenced by many great blues artists. In 2004 Elvis Presley was among first white artists to be inducted to Blues hall of Fame.

Blues will be the dominating genre of the evening but not the only one. There is no Elvis tribute without some rock'n'roll, some ballads and gospel too.

Elvis and Kirk Kerkorian
Elvis and Kirk Kerkorian

...Kerkorian is known as one of the most important figures in shaping the city of Las Vegas, Nevada and, with architect Martin Stern, Jr. the "father of the megaresort."
In 1967, he bought 82 acres (33 hectares) of land on Paradise Road in Las Vegas for $5 million and built the International Hotel, which at the time was the largest hotel in the world. During the construction of the Hotel Kerkorian signed a contract with Elvis that became the beginning of the Vegas era in Elvis’ career.  First performer to appear at the hotel's enormous Showroom Internationale was Barbra Streisand because Elvis didn’t want to do the first gig. Elvis brought in some 4,200 customers (and potential gamblers), every day, for 30 days straight, breaking in the process all attendance records in the city's history.

Elvis dispute in "Iravunk" newspaper

Elvis Press Armenia

Two weeks ago Armenian Iravunk newspaper printed an article entitled "Culture Desert". The article was condemning rock music in satanism and calling Elvis Presley the person who started all that. The article accused Elvis in spreading anti-Christianity. Not able to bear all those lies a counter article was sent to the editors. And today I'm very glad to see the article printed. It would've been very sad if some people got an impression about Elvis, from articles like that.

Incompetent journalist, who know nothing about Elvis' art and biography should spend a little more time investigating the topic, before writing these kind of articles. The new article in "Iravunk" indicates a number of inaccuracies by previous author Ruben Adamyan. The answer article mentioned Elvis' love to Gospel music and the great role Elvis played in popularization of that style. To read the article in Armenian click here.

Elvis. Am would like to express deepest consideration to the team of "Iravunk" newspaper for their unbiased and just approach to Elvis Presley.

The article presented here is written By Narek Markarian and the copyrights fully belong to "Iravunk" newspaper.

Armenia Launches the Updated and Redesigned Elvis Website

The First Armenian Elvis page appeared online way back in 2001. It enjoyed popularity among Elvis fans from ex-USSR countries. However time had come to broaden the audience and create a resource that would please fans from around the world. So once the www.elvis.am domain became free it was purchased and a new site was launched on August 16th, 2007. We hope that the resource will become useful for all the fans. We will try to offer most interesting information and downloadables, not found on other sites.

And please give us time fill in all the sections.
