| Here you'll find general info aboout all the movies Elvis starred in Through his career Elvis sometimes successfully and sometimes not very successfuly starred in 33 movies. Last two of them were documentaries. Elvis always wanted to be an actor among his idols were James Dean, Marlon Brando and Tony Curtis. After his first auditions everybody came to the conclusion that Elvis Presley could act. But the critics remained stubborn until 1958 when King Creole was out. Elvis was a dramatical actor but unfortunatly only a few of his movies were actually dramas. But Hal Walles, The producer of some of Elvis' movies said they never wanted to have Elvis as second James Dean they wanted him as first Elvis Presley. All his movies were financially successful and that new style in cinematography is still alive and Elvis-like movies are out every year. LOVE ME TENDER

Released: November 16, 1956
Cast
Vance ... Richard Egan
Cathy ... Debra Paget
Clint ... Elvis Presley
Songs in the movie:
Love Me Tender; Let Me; Poor Boy; We`re Gonna Move
First it was said that Elvis wasn't gonna sing in movies. But somehow the producers managed to put 4 songs in this one. The film was to be called The Reno Brothers but was renamed into Love Me Tender. The film is a typical western and the actions take place in 19th century shortly after the Civil War. It is also a love story and after it therewere romours Elvis had a romance with Debra Padget. Elvis dies in the movie and appears as a ghost in the end of it. This is the first dramatical role Elvis played. The two biggest successes of 1956 were Giant starring James Dean and Love Me Tender starring Elvis. the newspaper's review was "ELVIS PRESLEY CAN ACT!"
LOVING YOU
Paramount
Produced by Hal B. Wallis
Directed by Hal Kanter
Running Time: 101 minutes
Released: July 9, 1957
Cast
Deke Rivers ... Elvis Presley
Glenda ... Lizabeth Scott
Tex Warner ... Wendell Corey
Susan Jessup ... Dolores Hart
Songs:
Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear; Got A Lot Of Livin` To Do; Loving You; Lonesome Cowboy; Hot Dog; Mean Woman Blues; Let`s Have A Party
Many critics call this movie autobiographical. This is not quite correct altough there were some things taken from Elvis' story. The film is about a boy who becomes a star with his unique style of singing. Elvis falls in love with two girls at once and has an internal conflict too. The plot is poor. But the soundtrack is one of the most brilliant ones. Crazy Rock'n'Roll songs and romantic ballads. The film is worth seeing.
JAILHOUSE ROCK

The all-time Elvis song Jailhouse Rock was a guarantee of the movies success. Elvis hits a guy and accidently kills him, goes to jail where a country singer teaches him to sing. And Elvis becomes a star.

(These are not by Elvis)Turtles, Berris And Gumbo; Banana
The best movie Elvis ever starred in and my favourite one too. The script was originally written for Elvis' idol James Dean who died in a car accident. The song is about a boy's conflict with the society who in the end (of coarse) becomes a singer. The movie is based on a novel “A Stone for Danny Fisher” and has much incommon with “A Catcher In The Rye”. The sound track is very powerful with some influence of New Orlean's Jazz. The soundtrack as well as the movie was made shrt before Elvis' departure to the US Army.
G.I. BLUES
Paramount
Produced by Hal B. Wallis
Directed by Norman Taurog
Running Time: 104 minutes
Released: October 20, 1960
Cast
Tulsa McLean ... Elvis Presley
Cooky ... Robert Ivers

Songs:
G.I. Blues; Tonight Is So Right For Love; Frankfurt Special; Wooden Heart; Pocketful Of Rainbows; Didja Ever; What`s She Really Like?; Shoppin` Around; Big Boots; Doin` The Best I Can; Blues Suede Shoes
Right after Elvis' return from the Army this movie was made. Elvis is a GI in West Germany who plays rock'n'roll to spend time and bets with his friend if he could get a girl he wants. The soundtrack is made shortly after an album Elvis Is Back and has the same wonderful sound. Althogh I still don't get why Elvis re-recorded his hit single Blue Suede Shoes. FLAMING STAR
20th Century Fox
Produced by David Weisbart
Directed by Don Siegel
Running Time: 101 minutes
Released: December 20, 1960
Cast
Pacer Burton ... Elvis Presley
Clint Burton ... Steve Forrest
Roslyn Pierce ... Barbara Eden
Neddy Burton ... Dolores Del Rio
Pa Burton ... John McIntyre
Songs
Flaming Star; A Cane And A High Starched Collar
Originally it was decided that Marlon Brando should play with Elvis in the movie but Brando refused. Some say he couldn't competee with Elvis' popularity. But still the movie was great. Elvis played a dramatic role of a half white half Indian who was in the middle of the conflict with both. The Native American Tribal comitee gave Elvis an award for this role. Only two songs were in the movie (two others were cut). Whatever this is a great movie even though there's no Marlon Brando. WILD IN THE COUNTRY
Cast
Glenn Tyler ... Elvis Presley
Irene Sperry ... Hope Lange
Noreen ... Tuesday Weld
Songs:
Lonely Man; I Slipped, I Stumbeld, I Fell; In My Way; Wild In The Country
This is one of the most serious movies Elvis played in and I should stay it gets a little boring. But it's worth seeing only because it is a non- typical movie for Elvis. This is a story of a boy who avoids getting into prison and wishes to become a writer. Tuesday Weld played also in Heartbreak Hotel a stupid comedy about a boy who kidnaps Elvis for his Mom.
